I recently read an article written by Themes Guy suggesting a great way to get better at web design – he made the point that, like musicians, you don’t always have to be performing for someone to get better at something. So I’ve decided to put some time each week aside to just making websites for myself – designs that are simple and clean but that, in some way, extend my ability. I’m still getting used to actually making the graphics and design for websites (I’m more used to coding!) so a bit of time spent in this way can only be a good thing.
So…
A few weeks back we went to a campsite over near Robin Hood’s Bay. It was a great place. We stayed for about two hours as after that time our tent had fallen down, a couple of poles had snapped and some guy ropes had broken. We went to stay with my dad instead.
Because of that experience I decided to make a template for a campsite website. You can see the results on hostingland. Middlewood Farm already have a website so it’s not taking the place of that but they have very kindly said they don’t mind me using their name and text for the demo site.
It’s quite a basic layout using a few drop shadows (as is my way at the moment!) but I like the clean-ness of it. I put the quick contact information up at the top as really that’s what people will want to know. The thumbnails at the top are easily changeable through the backend and the image of the campsite (not Middlewood Farm) will be an image ticker of some kind with a variety of photos. I haven’t put any pages to it yet so it’s only the front page that you see if you follow the link but the pages won’t take long to put together.
I just thought I’d mention it. If you see it and like it and think it would work for you then give me a shout. The theme would need a bit of work as the text is specific to Middlewood Farm at the moment but that’s all easily changed and I’ve made it now so if you have a use for it give me a shout – I’d be happy to finish it off for you and even host it (although the hosting part wouldn’t be free!)
